The brief was to use experimental typography to create a type wall at any proposed location. I chose the context of a children’s library and featured some of Dr. Seuss’ most famous quotes, creating caligrams out of the text.
The brief was to follow the prompts set by 3 artists to create a strong visual.
Mark Titchener’s instructions - Choose a statement, strike out the letters that are repeated, and create a symbol out of the remaining letters. I chose the statement ‘I would like to be brave’ and made the symbol of a megaphone with the non-repeating letters.
Idris Khan - Repeat and overlap the aforementioned statement to amplify the message.
Julie Curtiss - Draw hands repetitively. I drew the gesture of a fist and made a stamp to create multiple, overlapping impressions on the page.
